In 1959 Underwood picks up a copy of book that has just been published:

Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.

The story concerns psychical researcher Dr. John Montague and his team as they investigate the purportedly haunted ‘Hill House’. It is later adapted into the 196 film The Haunting.

Underwood soon begins organising his own group visits to haunted houses, when he becomes President and Chief Investigator of the Ghost Club, the following year.
